People telling me to sell my car, but nobody want to buy it because of the engine problem I seem to have. Every time I start it up, it knocks, then shut off immediately. I have someone that offer me a cheap service plus an used 93 engine. My car is an Mercury Sable 95 3.8. Because of the features and stlye involve with it, some of my pals tell me to invest in the repairs for it, it worth it.Can someone help me to decide if I should or not?, I just bought the car, the seller says no refund! To fix it cost 300 for engine , 300 to put it in.

$600 is a great price for an engine and an install. Get it done and then sell it. You'll be much better off with a newer car.

It's a judgment call really. It depends on a lot of factors. It's a 95, so it's over 10 years old. What's the mileage? How clean is it? New tires? If you go to a 93 engine, it's even older then, and I'm not completely sure it would fit without some modifying. If you are going to pull the engine, you might consider a rebuilt 95. You could get one for about $1,500 with a $300 core charge. I wouldn't go the expense unless it's an extremely clean car that you just fell in love with and have to have it. Otherwise I would sell as is and get out from under it.

The 3.8 ford-merc engine was not the best engine. some people will argue that. Because the car is 11 years old, I'd get rid of it. However, 600. is not a bad price for repair. But I'D still get rid of it.

Someone's blowin' smoke up your butt...I don't care what engine, car or year it is, no one is charging only $600 to pull, repair and drop back in an engine. A crank isn't something you just unbolt and replace either. Get rid of it man...it's going to cost you $1000s.
