Praise inflation works well. Parents like to hear what is good about the darlings. That is how they see the kid.

Address the negative things by offering possible solutions. Let them all know how much potential they have.

When you've completed them . . . I like to have red wine.

Good luck! I sure you'll do well, since you've asked how it shows you have the desire to do well. Do a few at a time. When you begin using the same phrases over and over take a break. Maybe next grading period you could keep notes about observations you've seen so you can note positives you've seen and areas where progress can be made.

Gotta get the wine now.

I don't think I have enough info to answer correctly, but I usually keep it short and sweet, even if I've had to tear up the paper, so to speak. If it's for a report card or disciplinary action, be pointed.
