Good question- years ago I would have answered no but over the years I have been forced to examine who I am. That was a very difficult process and yet I would recommend it to everyone. It takes years of work and self examination but eventually you realize who you are; how others view you and how you will respond in certain situations. No, to the second part - I don't know exactly where I am going. The reason, is the world is evolving rapidly and I have no idea what is around the corner.
It could be a million dollars or it could be learning that I have cancer. There are always life changing events that affect us and throw us off balance.

I think it's impossible to know yourself completely.

Astronomers cannot study our planet Earth while they stand on it. They have to send a shuttle or a sattelite to relay pictures from space.

Being able to know yourself is related to this idea. You cannot study yourself while you are in your character; someone else can give you opinions, but that is where it gets complicated.
orker, a lawyer or even a judge. By going to college and aspiring to become a writer all I do is increase my chances of being one and lessening my chances of being a construction worker.
People are like the Astronauts and sattelites in another way, also. When a sattelite takes a picture of the Earth, it can only capture one side at a time. Multiple sattelites are needed to take pictures of the entire thing, and even then it would take forever, and would be nearly impossible to get a picture of every angle.

The people you know can tell you things about yourself, but they will tell you only the good or the bad. It is very hard to get an unbiased opinion of yourself. If you ask your friends, they will tell you the good. If you ask your enemies, they will tell you the bad.

This analogy also applies to knowing where you are going in life. The Atronomers can study and study, and use bigger telescopes and sattelites to see farther into space, but they can never find the end unless they actually get there. You will never know where you are really going until you find yourself there. Until you do, you can say and think what you want to happen but it is really all a game of chance, but with lots of skill involved.

I want to be a writer one day. I want to travel the globe and see the sights, and when I see them I want to write about it so that people can know what is going on in other parts of the world... But no matter how bad I want it, I don't know if that is what will actually happen in the end. I could drop out of college, or not be able to continue due to finance, or I could even die. I might get through college and after all of it is finished and I have spent the money and learned everything there is to know about the English language, I may not be able to find a job. I might end up as a construction worker, a lawyer or even a judge. The only thing I can do is increase my chances of doing what I want by hoping and dreaming and learning what I need to learn to be what I want.

Philosophy have given me the path to know myself. I'm from Greece so it's very easy for me to read philosophy and learn about myself. Try the same, you will earn much.
I think I know where I'm going but I've learned to change and to be flexible in my life-paths, so maybe there will be changes.
My favorite philosophers are Socrates, Plato, Aristoteles, Epictetus and Epicurus. See the links

I don't suspect you really want to know this about me. I suspect you really need to know this about yourself. Take up a practice, like aikido to center yourself and get on the right track for who you really are. Find out by doing a practice such as yoga or aikido.

No. I wish I knew myself but I don't. Do we ever? When I think I'm feeling really confident and good about myself or anything, something makes it go away. I don't understand. I guess I'm not supposed to feel good.
