I do hiring for a general contractor. We pay decent, especially for people who are just starting out and have absolutely no experience. But, in the last 4 months I've had 5 guys walk off the job complaining that the work was just too hard. Is it the younger generation? I'm really baffled by this.

I have the same problem. I run a trucking company and it is hard to find good truck drivers. Pay is also good at times I think too much. They make more than me. Will I think people know a days wanna work less and receive more. I am young and I think you should work hard for what you want. Especially when you are starting off it is great for experience they can not complain. That is how society is know a days though nothing we can do.

I'd hate to generalize, but I have tried to find good workers lately too, and have had similar problems. The younger people do seem to have a sense of entitlement. Unfortunately, you'll just have to keep hiring and sorting through. Be totally honest in the interviews about how much work there is, and even some of the negative things you have heard from your departed staff. You'll find some good employees eventually. Good luck.

I'm only 21 and I know this,I love to work hard for people's money. Not many people care about there work like me or the much older generation. Just look at all the ads on TV and in the paper that claim to give people a six figure income from home in a month or less by mailing letters or jumping into the real estate buisness. Not to mention the ask LESKO dumbass and the copy-catters out there that claim to know all the loop holes to get free money from the government. People nowadays want free hand-outs just for picking their *** in public. The women suing PBS for 10 million because her son has become "terrified" because of a special episode they did on huricanes. what a crock of SH** People don't want to work.

Wish I knew. I have the same problem. Mostly the ones that do come in for jobs here at my animal clinic are just too lazy or stupid. The few people here that I "inherited" can't get here on time. It's making me crazy! personally I've always been a hard and productive worker. Eventually I learned to work " smarter not harder".

It's part the younger generation. It's part due to the welfare state (Why work when the government will support you.) And this is the reason people hire illegal aliens. But when the illegal aliens kids are born and raised in this lazy American culture, they will become just like the rest...lazy when they grow up.

The younger generation wants to do as little work as possible for a lot of money. Although maybe what you think is a decent wage really isn't.

There are several reasons for a employee to stay or leave. Most of them are not attached to their salary but for the motivations, expectations, challenges, work enviroment and management culture.

A good plan for covering and improve these areas I'm sure will be really successful.

well since you hire just about anyone even with know experience you probably just have anyone who needs a job applying for the position. then they find out that's not what they want to be doing. I would try to hire someone with experience at least then they understand what they are getting themselves into.

these days, when you can get paid $10 an hour or better for call center work, or Mc jobs, it makes it hard for business' that are just starting out to be competitive. I would suggest researching what other business' in your line of work for your area are paying for that position.

I am young, but I understand. It could be that the work is just too hard but I also think that people now-a-days are selfish lazy asses. If they have to work the slightest bit they aren't going to do it. You can post your job online at www.careerbuilder.com, monster.com, hotjobs.com and I believe its free to post on your states workforce centers website.
