well, you can download them from p2p's but not exactly for free, if the law happens to catch you, it can cost up to 1000.00 per song, there are people working for the music industry that the government has given permission to search your harddrives while you are downloading, whether you have file sharing enabled or not, and whe they decide to get womeone, they can get your IP to give them all the info they need to arrest and file chagrges, I do not condone it, not going to pay a fine for stealing music

Look for public domain music or samples. Those are free.

there's a lot of p2p softwares around, but to keep my conscience from promoting piracy hehe, i'll recommend mercora IMradio. you can download from http://www.mercora.com - you can search by artist names, genre, and favorite djs. you can also record some of the songs you've listened, so you can play your favorites over and over.
