Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and George W. Bush have inspired me quite a bit. They have shown me that any dumbass that has the money to advertise can get a power position in this country.
Seriously, the greatest inspiration to me are people who tell me that my goals are unrealistic dreams; The ones who tell me that I "can't do it" are the ones that give me the will to actually "do it".

David Hume.
Hume's thoughts on the Self and Self-Identity completely "turned my world upside down" The idea that none of us actually exist they way that we think we do blew my mind.
In a nutshell, the view is that, what compromises the 'self' is constantly changing. We think of the 'self' as a constant that stays with us throughout our lives and never completely changes, but Hume points out that this view is false and needs to be re-thought.
take a look at another answer i have given on Hume's view of the self:
---
The self exists only as a perciever. Since perceptions are always changing, the self cannot be a constant. Upon introspection at any point someone can only consider what they are perceiving at that time. Consider this:
A man loses a lot of money in a poker game one night. He wakes up the next morning and really feels miserable because of all the money he lost. The man goes to work feeling really low. When he thinks about "himself" it only makes him feel worse. However, right before he is leaving work at the end of the day his boss comes up to him and gives him a substantial bonus and a large raise. The man now feels a whole lot happier. When he thinks about "himself" he feels a sort of sense of pride, or accomplishment.
Even though the man is the same physical 'body', it seems that his 'essence' or feelings upon introspection have drastically changed. One may even be apt to say that the physical body has changed, even in the eight hours at work. A hair or two may have fallen out, he probably went to the bathroom, ate, lost some dead skin cells. His physical composition and 'mental' composition seem to be changing pretty frequently. How can we say that he is the same 'self'? How can the 'self' be defined as something that is constant?

President Kennedy. I know it sounds like a crazy answer for some people. When I was about 15 and saw some old footage of speeches I felt inspired. I mean, I didn't have a hope and everything was wrong. It was a bit of light in a dark world for me.

Sir Ernest Rutherford - he was the middle child of a working class family in New Zealand. His dad was a wheelwright and his mother a school teacher.
He invented the radio before Marconi. He also discovered alpha and beta radiation, used them to probe the atom to discover most of the atom's mass was in the central core he called the nucleus. He discovered natural radioactive decay and the equation that governs it.
His students like Chadwick and Hans Geiger went on to become famous in their own right. Chadwick discovered the neutron just exactly where Rutherford predicted it to be (scooping the Joliot-Curies in the process). Geiger and Rutherford invented detectors that could see radioactive decay down to a single event. Otto Hahn, who later discovered fission, studied under Rutherford, so did Niels Bohr, who adapted Max Planks' quantum theory to atomic orbitals.
Rutherford was called "The Crocodile" by his students, partly because of his tremendous grasp on any subject he was interested in and partly because he kept a stuffed crocodile hanging in his lab (a nod to ancient alchemists). He could not do some experiments that involved looking for small flashes of light (scintillations) because he smoked like a chimney and could not get dark adapted. He sent Geiger to the basement to do those. He knew only one song "Onward Christian Soldiers" and sang that at the top of his lungs when things were going very well or very badly.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mary. He used his first grant money to travel from England to Canada the long way around to New Zealand to propose to her and sweep her off her feet. *grin*
When he died. England placed his ashes in Westminster Abbey next to those of Sir Isaac Newton's.
Pretty impressive!

Thomas Jefferson...
a real man, a real writer, a real dreamer
lived what he believed, fought for what he believed...and had the courage to put it in writing.
he was an visionary, whose ideals stand today and
even though they have been stretched to the max.... they still function..not just for 13 colonies...but for 50 non-continous states and several million folks.
and Ben Franklin...and it would take me all day to write how he inspires me!!
