i am not necessarily an alderman, but i work with them (im the student advisor to my local city council). an alderman is another name for a city council member. they help the mayor run the city and make decisions on water, sewer, economic development, roads, and zoning issues in their community. they are elected officials, so in order to be one, you have to declare your candidacy with your county clerk when it comes time for an election (every city and state is different). i could go on for hours, so if you wanted more information, just send me a message, and ill glady go into a lot more detail.
