There are two kinds of people saying this. Most of the time it's #1: people who want to be different and unique to the point that they refuse to like a band that other people like. They want to act like their favorite bands are all ones that you've never heard of because they think it makes them cooler than you.
But there is also a second explanation. Person #2 says that punk music is not just a type of music, but also a culture. They would say that one of the strict requirements of this type of culture is playing to very small club crowds. They might admit that they like the music but say that it just plain isn't punk if it sells a lot.
Here's an analogy to money. Imagine Green Day is a $50 bill. Person #1 says he doesn't want the $50 bill because it's much cooler to be poor and he doesn't want to be rich and preppy and have $50 bills.
Person #2 has a collection of $20 bills. He might say that the $50 is wonderful and he would like to have it, but no matter how wonderful it is it can't be a $20 bill, which is what he's collecting.

It's simple - jealousy and stupidity, but I wouldn't worry much about that if I were you cause there is nothing you can do about it. Those are great bands and that's a fact. Ppl who think they are sellouts are like I said - jealous or just don't have any taste in music.

They both make me want to puke and so do you when you make the claim that they are "great" bands! I never said they were sellouts, they have nothing to sell out about! They are corporate bands of limited talent and they play music the record company tells them to make and there ya go.....repetitious, been done before, hook & cliche garbage that chumps buy!

Because many true punks feel like these bands are a watered down version of punk. Punk is a Do It Yourself culture, and many feel that that part of punk no longer exists.

I don't know. I guess they are just jealous that they are so successful. Maby its just a people thing. Some people just can't be proud of someone for their success. I think its a natral thing in people. They have to try to rip them down.

each to their very own, chum. in my opinion, i do in contrast to the two of the two. yet I genuinely would not innovations too lots if I had to take heed to them, say, on a automobile experience with a chum in the event that they cherished the two bands.

One simple word- JEALOUSY! They wish it was them and can't be happy for someone that has reached the level of success that they want.
