To support a football team, you must have some kind of afinity to it regardless from where they are from. And you should stick to them in good and bad times.
But, after that, regardless of the team you support, you should ALWAYS spare some thought and time for your home town club as a good gesture goodwill.
If you support only your hometown club, you will be changing clubs all the time you move

Most people don't make a conscious decision to to support a team, you just grow up supporting them because your dad does or friends do or something. Once you support a team you can't change your mind, whatever happens.
If you only start to like football when you are older and you have to pick a team to support you should pick the nearest team to where you live.

Definitely home town club. There are some exceptions where some people are born in a country and live in another...I think they should have the option to choose the Country in which they truly believe in.
