If you're using a recent version of Windows, go to the Device Manager, and right click on the particular CD drive that's listed, and choose "Uninstall". Then reboot the pc, and ordinarily Windows will recognize the drive as "new hardware" and re-install the drivers for it. Do this before considering purchase of a new one. Good luck.

go into the bios and see if its even reconising the cdrom drive . check and make sure the cdrom is working and/or plugged in properly might have a bad ribbon
