Hi. In California, it probably depends on which city/major county you live in. We had problems with Pit Bulls when we lived in Texas, and we found out they were illegal in our city. So if I were you, I'd contact the local police department. I don't think that there are any sites to tell you, because they might be outdated, or simply incorrect. Have a great day.

just get whatever you want and if you are arrested its illegal. and yes there are websites you can check out, google search pet laws california or some such.

i do know ferrits are illegal to have. although my mom used to have one....try going to ca.gov or something along those lines should tell you....
