I live Massachusetts where some financial services are offering something called a Personal Pension. You might want to call a bank around you and see if they offer it and form more information. If you like you can email me a yamsleepy@yahoo.com and I would email you the basics if you are interested.

It is never too late to start a home based business that will supplement your income until retirement. I am in one that specializes in the health of baby-boomers. Needless to say, it is a huge market that still has many years to go! Therefore, by the time you retire, you will have built an incredible income! I have no formal training, I rely on the people who are helping me and together we are building a very lucrative income.
Something to consider!

Is your house paid off? If so you could possibly sell it and make a down payment into a multi-unit appartment where you live in one unit and your tenants pay your housing and your living expenses. You could live on social security. Theres no rule that says you can't work during retirement!
