In patient re-hab. followed up by a lifetime of narcaholics anonymous. It sounds scarier than it is. I wish you luck.

It sounds, honestly, that you don't really have an addiction to Meth. My guess is that you just hang out with the wrong people. When people around you are doing Meth, you are too. If you can go weeks without doing it, you're not too bad. I would suggest that you call a local rehab and talk to a special counselor. You still need some counseling if not rehab.

Congrats first on wanting to quit, and making that first step of seeking "help." While others might say go to a treatment center, that is really not necessary and sometimes beneficial. The best way to quit is to have a caring support group (i.e. family, friends who don't use). Stop using, stop hanging around those who do, DO NOT return phone calls from people who use, and set short term goals that progressively get longer. I think people get overwhelmed when they think, I can't go a year without using, so think, I can go xx weeks, reward yourself (not with the drug), and then set a slightly longer goal with an even better reward. Or you could see who is affected the most by your use, such as a child or very important friend/family member, and use them as a reward, you are doing it so you can be there for them. I hope this helps if even just a little.
Good luck in your quest, and I know you can quit. My mom quit after five years of heavy abuse, therefore I know it can be done. The most important part is finding new friends.

I honestly don't know, but I want to suggest that you be careful about some of those Meth clinics. I have a friend who has been going to one of those for 3 years, and has only come down a very few mg after all that time! I honestly don't think they are even trying to ween him off. I think they just want to keep him addicted so they can keep getting his money. They are supposed to counsel him, but they don't. It's really disappointing.
I feel so sorry for you. My friend has terrible symptoms from the Meth. He says it is very addictive and is worse than anything he has ever been addicted to. If I were in your situation, I think I would opt for an in-hospital stay. As un-fun as that sounds, I honestly think it would be better to get it over with like that than to keep going on for years and years like this friend of mine is doing.
Congratulations for your desire to quit, and I wish you all the best.

How long have you taken meth? If you have been taken meth for a long time, it could be difficult to quit cold turkey. Try to get help from your local rehab centers. Whenever you feel like taking meth, try to do something else to occupy your mind, like watching tv or talking to people or go to Yahoo answers.
Edit: Jessika G is right. You should consider not hanging out with friends who are drug addicts.

This area has a "Drug Court," where the participants are given the choice of incarceration or going through the Drug Court program. The recovery rate is astounding, and many meth addicts have totally recovered. Good luck!

move. serious. unless you can truly get away from the people you do it with or the town you do it in it'll never leave you alone.i did it for years. had to leave state to kick. the thing is that if you can quit for weeks at a time you really don't have a physical addiction. its psychological. and so that would lead me to believe its peer pressure along with poor decision making, along with either boredom or escape ism.look at what you are feeling right before the times you use. find some thing more constructive to replace that feeling with. if its just for a good time.....well i don't buy that. why would you even post the question then. good luck. sorry its a shitty drug to kick...

You took the first step, admitting that you have addiction and want to quit. Check into a rehab clinic, and take it a day at a time. Have faith in yourself that you can get over the addiction and that you are strong. Best of luck to you.

Will power. You want to quit, but you have to convince yourself of it.
Maybe this will help. Next time you get a craving, look at this (particularly the second picture) after the pics load, roll your mouse over them to see how people change after using meth for a while:

good luck, I'm sure you can do it.

CONGRATULATIONS for thinking about quitting. Know that you are not alone..And that things will only get better. Definetly get some medical help-go to a center, sign up at a support group-there might be one online for you to use in the meantime just to see what other people are coping with. Remember going to a doctor is essential as your body will be going through changes and these people are TRAINED to help people like you..Best of luck, I hope you get over it as soon as possible. So proud of you!
