When I first saw this question, I thought immediately of an intro to a book of essays my mother had given me, but since it's not very succinct, I decided not to post it. However, since you haven't received a ton of answers, I thought I'd scan in the essay and upload it after all. It's located at the link below (it's a Microsoft Word file); it's far too long for me to type out. The entire intro is there, though you can just read the sections on the fallacies, if you so choose. I hope it's of some help to you!

A mistake in reasoning does not in and of itself necessarily make a statement a fallacy.

"George Bush is a bad president because he wears ugly neckties on television" is strange reasoning, but it doesn't automatically mean that Bush is not bad, simply that he's not bad for the stated reason.

I agree that generalization is a good test. "All" or "Every" statements are usually false.

A fallacy is usually accompanied with bias on the part of the article's author(s). Look for subjectivism.

well a fallacy usually includes a generalization. look for things that say something along the lines of "everybody does this" and "no one wants this to happen." they generalize the public and say that EVERYONE wants something when they dont. it should read something more like "a majority of the people" or "more than half of the people" or "most of the people." it should never say anything that includes "all" of something.
