Water animals in Cherokee Creation Legend?

Question

I already know that in the Cherokee Creation Legend, animals come from above, from the sky. But what about water animals, how did they get there?
Need it for a presentation in English! :s

The waterbeetle brought mud from the bottom of the sea. It began to grow into an island. The water always exists the Earth gets too populated (too heavy) and falls back into the sea.
Now this is how the story begins in the book. As if the birds and fish have always existed.
