Why does India influence the culture and food of vietnam?

The only other food I ate in Vietnam other than Vietnamese food was a hamburger. I never ate anything that resembled Indian food other than some curry over rice, and that could be a Viet dish.

The only influence I can see fro mIndia is the relative close geographical location and Buddhism. Both reaons are long stretches to consider an influence over Viet food.
