I was told that my fulltime "temporary" job would turn permanent after a year, so i could collect benefits. However, I have now been told (one year, one month and 5 days later) that they are not allowed to create a new position, that there's no budget for it. Aside from looking elsewhere, as I already am, what choices do i have?

Probably not a lot that you can do aside from looking for another job. You could try and plead your case with your supervisor or the HR department but that's about it.

Unless you have a written contract of employment that states that you will be a regular full-time employee by a certain date, your employment is considered "at will" and the terms can be altered at any time the employer (or you) choose to do so.

Well first of all did you have any wittiness that heard that verbal promise, if so depending on what state you live in that can be considered breaking a verbal agreement. Second of all did you get it in writing? If so you can make them stick to it. And finally if you have neither of those things it is pretty much your word against theirs. I would also start looking elsewhere for a job because obviously they are disrespecting you and it will probably keep happening good luck to you. I would make a report to the labor board or aka BOLI.

There are several things you may want to consider looking into:

1. Does you Salary include your vacation pay?

2. Consider contacting your Labor Standards or Labor Relations in your Area.

depending on the size of the company, I would start with the Human Resources Department.

If there was any kind of contract, verbal or written, then you could sue for breach of contract. The hard part may be proving what they told you.

none. just look for another job. even if that offer was made in writing they have to right to withdraw it based on company performance. if the co. did poorly, you suffer. sorry....
