Your equation would look like x^2-ax+b. Which means when you solve the equation you would two answers one of which will contain a plus sign other will contain a minus sign since the middle term is negative. Thus the answer is C.

answer is A. looking at the equation x^2-ax+b, when you factor it it should look something of the form (x-c)(x-d). This means that FOILing would produce x^2-cx-dx+cd. Then ax=cx-dx and b=cd and ax would be negative and b would be positive.
