9 out of 10 times it would be easier and more efficient just to look the answer up yourself in http://www.wikipedia.org/ or somewhere else and be MUCH more confident in getting a quality answer. For opinions you can't get elsewhere, you'll never get a very scientific sampling here for most any question, hell-- you're lucky if you even get a couple serious answers. Half the time, the yit-nit who answers the question is either a smart a$$ kid or sombody who doesn't give a damn about their answer only about getting a couple points. Even as just an venue to chat, this place is pretty much worthless since there's almost no interaction. What's the point?

The point to my question? Who else would you suggest I ask what the value of this place is other than the very people who find it valuable?

Wikipedia has false info, some people like to get second opinions or more sources, someone was looking for a political person with the same name as a singer, I looked quite hard to find information on the political person because there were so many pages about the singer, a few about a chef and 2 about the political person, some people aren't sure exactly how to get best results from a google search. If you see no point in it then why are you asking a question on it to get pointless answers?

I've got to agree. It's more of a social institution than a place to seek real answers to your questions. Sure occasionally you get a good answer but 9 times out of 10 it's a half assed, I just made it up, kind of answer. I admit too, that I am guilty of posting these kinds of answers. You get on this "points" mission and you want to get your points. It's great though, when someone picks your answer as the best even if it is a cheesey one. That's probably the best part of the entire site. I'm just about to reach level 4, and just now I'm realizing that to get to level 5 would be pointless because I wouldn't get great answers to my questions anyways! It's a time wasting site and I'm addicted to it.

You can't find answers to math problems online. Ppl here can solve it for u and show u how to do it. Also, it is not always efficient to look up wikipedia because u have a specific question with a specific answer and wikipedia's articles are many pages long. Why spend all that time reading when u can get the answer directly by asking it on yahoo.

Some people either don't know how to research or don't have time. The Yahoo Answers community helps those kinds of questioners. As for the just plain commentary posted some of it is entertaining, funny, and insightful while other remarks are stupid, boring, or rude. In other words, it's just like the rest of your life only you can turn it on and off at will.

Everyone that asks a question is not looking for an answer containing facts, sometimes you want opinions. I myself am a people person. I don't want to try to get to know alot of people by chatting on the internet, but it does intrigue me to get opinions and see what people are thinking and how they're living.

I must admit most of the questions that are answered are in a nonchalant manner, I strongly feel it is about the competitive thrill of getting the most points. I find Yahoo Answers addictively fun.
