My lease for my apartment runs out at the beginning of August. So do I get my deposit back for the apartment and for the gas bill account that I opened up with the gas company?

I used to work for an apartment complex. The deposit was made to ensure that you would return the apartment in the same condition in which it was rented to you. If you want to make sure you get your deposit back, make sure it is completely empty (you'd be surprised what people leave behind) and make sure it is CLEAN. I'm not talking "good enough" - I'm talking clean. Otherwise you are very likely to be charged for cleaning. Also, make sure anything you may have damaged is repaired or be prepared to pay for it. You should've completed a move-in checklist where you walked around the apartment and made note of anything that was less than perfect. Upon move-out, your manager will take that list and compare it to what he/she now finds in that apartment. Most managers will be lenient to a point, but to make sure there are no suprises, talk with your apartment manager about his/her expectations.

My guess is the gas bill deposit amount would normally be automatically refunded once you've paid your bill on time for the predetermined time. If you haven't been there that long, I would think the gas company would either refund it now or apply it to your next address/account. I do not know for sure, so I would call the gas company and check.

If you leave at the end of your lease (August) and nothing is damaged in the apartment- yes you should get your rent deposit back. As far as the gas company, when you call them to close the account make sure to tell them your new address so they can mail you your deposit back.

You should get your deposit back. Was it a 1st/last deposit or a security deposit? The landlord will want to go through the property to see if any repairs are needed. Be sure to photograph the place before you move out to document its condition.

However, unless it says so in your lease, you don't get a refund on your utilities cost.

For the gas company no you dont get it back cuz its a deposit because they ran a credit check and that was the money you put down for pretty much a down payment to have service with them. but with your apartment deposit it depends on the manager whether how much damage is done to the apartment and what needs to be done for new tentants to move in.
