Is girls size 16 supposed to be for an ideal size 16yr old girl? (5'4'', 27'' waist, 36''hips, 34'' chest)

There is also girls size 18 and 20 at places like limited too. Size 18 is for 5'5'', 28''waist, 37.5''hips, 35'' chest according to the ltd too catalog. Are they for the ideal sized 18 and 20 yr old respectively? (they seem like womens medium sizes to me!)

well its a matter of genetics and nutrition.
see the growth charts in any pediatric clinic, they are for free.
and you can see on what percentile you lie. there isn't some thing called ideal size in medicine. its just a matter of statistics and it varies from race to race and place to place

Honey, there is no "ideal" size. It depends on your body structure and personal comfort level. Don't let a stores catalog dictate to you what is acceptable. The sizes you list are quite small, I wouldn't worry about it!

MENTALCASE: How dare you suggest that a 27" waist is "too thick"?? Are you wanting this poor child to develop some sort of eating disorder? A 27" waist is thin and no reason to worry. I'm sure as she grows, she'll learn what works and doesn't work for her, she doesn't need some psycho like you saying she's fat (especially when those measurments CLEARLY indicate otherwise). She is 16!! There is still time to grow (I grew 3" from 17 to 18 1/2) and develop (got breasts then too from an A to a C!!). When that happens, her measurements now won't matter!! Again I ask, HOW DARE YOU!!??

Ummm, yeah I am 15 and I am size 16 or 14 in children's wear(5'4) . actually there is an ideal size because a 19 year old can't and should not be the same size as an 39 year old who could be size 16 (in women size).

Nope they are not like that, if that was the case a size 1 would be for a one year old.
and it fits a super slim person instead.
take your measurements and find the sixe that fits you the most correct.
If you are out of the junior sizes such as 13 jr, then try the womans sizes around size 4 or 5.
and go from there.

ditto with gccard. I am 18 and size 16 in what is supposed to be called "little girls" falls on me! And I don't think I am thin at all! I am about 5'4'' or 5'5'' 102lbs. Often I have to go with girls size 14 or 16slim. Kids becoming like monsters these days!

Yes, it is supposed to be. Kids size = age. Everyone is getting fatter these days, especially kids and teens which is why kids and teen sizes are so big now. You know a size 8 womens is supposed to be for someone with a 27'' waist?

So if a girls 16 is for a 27'' waist that is generous sizing to me. A 16 y/o girl should be skinnier than that.

The numbers on clothing sizes and your age have nothing to do with each other. Size 16 is a larger size for "Junior" girls, which are usually considered to be teenagers. Even number sizes are juniors sizes and odd numbered sizes are "Misses" or "Womens" sizes. NONE of this has ANYTHING to do with age, just weight and height.

Your ideal size is based on how you feel about yourself. Limited Too and places like that are horrible to shop at, because they promote the "anorexically thin is beautiful" images that society appreciates. Feel good in the skin you're in, and the heck with Limited Too!

18 to 20 it's for a large woman but for you i think the best are 14 to 16. i take 18 to 20 and i have 5'2", 42 for my breast , 37 for my chest and 39 for my bot ( i don't know the name for my asssss but sorry it's the only word that i can think) so 14 for you or 16 will be the best.

People are different sizes at the same age. The sizes are a norm to go by, but obviously not everyone will fit the pattern.
