I have a 2.53Ghz chip with a ATI 9550 video card and at the moment 512MB PC2100 of memory (2x256mb sticks). Will I see a performance increase in gaming if I get a 512MB stick of PC2100 and add it to 1 of the 2 256mb sticks for a total of 768mb vs 512mb since the mobo only has 2 slots for memory?

or would even be better to a 1GB stick and add it to the 256MB? will I see a major difference with this setup?

You may see a slight increased performance, but not a major performance. You can see a difference if you have a single 256MB stick installed at first, then upgrade to the 768MB or higher.

I recommend purchasing two 512 sticks. But first see what the limit of your mobo can hold. It may hold more, and so you would probably be able to set two 1GB sticks in... Good luck.

Based on your current configuration, I'd say... maybe. Your processor isn't particularly powerful, neither is your graphics card and your memory is no speed demon either. More memory can't hurt but I doubt very much you will see a noticable increase in speed. I'd say still get more memory but that will only aide the speed of Windows and probably not your games. I'd upgrade the memory to 1GB and get a new video card if you really want to see an increase in performance.

Yeah, if you can get 1GB and pair it with a 256MB you will see a noticeable performace gain but also keep in mind that you really should upgrade your video card as well. To at least something in the X1300/X1600 series.

u will notice some but not a lot, i would advise a much better graphics card since that 1 u have is a very basic card, i use a ati 9600xt and i can play most games at high settings.
like battlefield 2 etc.

u miseed to specify video ram. if its graeter than 64MB then the performance deifference depends on the game u play. If its so graphics intensive then u will surely get a boost in ur speed. This will surely speed up even ur normal system if ur video card uses shared memory as intel integrated graphics does.
