MAll of the double layer dvd's I have seen are dvd+r...my player is a dvd-r

Most Hollywood movies are dual (double) layer. If your player can play them, it should play dual (double) layer discs fine.

only if your dvd player supports it, but it should work fine.
as long as its a new enough dvd player
