Free can be tough, but you have several options as far as either getting your child a free ride to school or reducing the amount you need to pay.
1) There are scholarships, including full-ride scholarships available... but it is something your child will need to work for that you can't do for him/her.. like excelling at sports, in various subjects like math, science, art, or music, or doing a lot of community service.
2) If your child doesn't qualify for a full-ride scholarship, he/she may qualify for financial aid. There are basically 3 kinds- grants, which you don't have to pay back, loans, which you do need to pay back, or work study, in which he/she will be working for a salary in order to pay for their college.
3) Your child can start to look for a job now to help pay their way through college.
4) You and your child can invest money into a savings acoount starting now and not use it except to pay for college.

If you are poor//then you can get help. A minority..? even if it is only 5% Indian.. then u can get help.
Both parents go to work,, work hard for what they have...have a savings for the future and retirement???
Then,,, you will get zero money !!
You will have to change your lifestyle until your children are out of college,,,, kinda going back to like when they were in diaper... you know.. you thought. "How will we be able to afford diapers and formula?? ""
But, college is much much more.. plus you have two households to pay for.. and with gas so high,, it will be a challenge.

you can always force your child to play a sport and get really good at it and get a sports scholarship. Then tell him sports is not important and get him to study for a real degree.
