any really good websites where you can find loads of well-presented and easy to understand info about South Africa's history and apartheid. I've got to write about the tuning points in Nelson Mandela's life and am finding it hard to get and good stuff about him.

I'm not asking anyone to write the essay for me but any help on where to look on the internetwould be greatly apreciated.( I can only find long winded biographies with lots of long words.)
thanx

I know my history but not S African.

What I WOULD say is: check for sites on South African leaders, yoou might find this a better angle to take. P W Botha and F W deKlerk are two to start with. You could find a quote or two that they said about Mandela. Particularly deKlerk had an affect on Mandela's life. Sorry no websites that I know myself!

I suggest that you add to your list of NAMES pertaining to South Africa...the name STEVEN BIKO...there is a movie depicting him and the stuggle against "apartheid".

While Nelson Mandela was jailed...BIKO became a significant leader of the movement...and paved the way for the protests leading to Nelson Mandela's release.

BIKO was killed while being "detained" for violating the infamous
"Pass-Laws" instituted by the apartheid regime.

Perhaps you should also research the words "SHEBEEN", and
"MERABI"...two words applied to the "illegal cafe's" and social clubs located in townships such as SOWETO.

The SHEBEENS are now paid homage to as the "birthplace" of
reknowned South African musicians such as "DOLLAR BRAND"
( Abdullah Ibrahim), HUGH MASEKELA, MIRIAM MAKEBA, and
more recently...the musicians of LADYSMITH BLACK MOMBAZO.

So,...take look at the "MUSIC of SOUTH AFRICA"...you'll be surprised (and rewarded) by what you'll find relating to the LIBERATION MOVEMENT. I hope this will help.
