Depends on where you are going...and which airport you're at. If you're at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, it's very rare that you get to hail a metered taxi. You have to go up at the departure area to wait for people getting off the taxi. The safest option will be the taxi service at the airport. Quite pricey but it's safe. They have fixed rates for different destinations starting from P500.00
If you're from the Centennial Airport (where all the PAL flights are...international or domestic) this goes the same way as the NAIA (above).
The Domestic Airport is the only place that they have a queue for metered taxis. Although they have the taxi service at the arrival gate, just walk past through and outside is the queue for the metered taxis.
A metered taxi should only cost you about P100-P200 all the way to Quezon City, especially that it's 11pm...night time and no traffic. Sometimes the taxi driver asks for "extra" but remember, if it's just within Metro Manila, more than P300 is too much already.

the first thought that came to my mind upon reading this post was 1. WHY is college tuition fee is America ridiculously expensive? WHY do colleges need so much money? A college is NOT a company like Apple or Microsoft. My sister will graduate from her 4 years of university soon and the total coast of tuition pee paid during those 4 years....is OMG too much. the amount is almost as much as the U.S. national debt. 2. do colleges REALLY need a lot of money? 3. America is currently facing an economic crisis; it is predicted to be one of the worst ever in U.S. history. So unemployment is a rising issue, the economy is getting spoiled and there are more innocent citizens suffering beneath the poverty line. And i am NOT against the government but the federal government doesn't seem to be sorting it out well. I don't know that much about the ecnonomy, so I learned from my sister (she's a business / economics major) and i can tell that the nation, the economy and so on are all facing a crisis. Soo....i don't know but unless the government promises to like help the poor pay for college or something I strongly suggest that colleges DO NOT raise tuition fees. Otherwise...America will face an even worse educational crisis. Does the stuff I typed make sense? hope it does. And......the good news is that the expensive tuition fee paid to a great college was actually worth it since my sister got a great job 2 weeks before graduation.

The Airport is accessible to all type of transportations (taxis, buses and even jeepneys). But in order get a bus, metered taxi or a jeepney you have to walk for about 100 meters. The cost of transportation here is the same regardless of the time. For the metered taxi the minimum is 30.00 pesos ($0.60) + 2.5 pesos for every 500 meters (I do advise you to give tip to the driver considering the cost is so cheap). For the bus and jeepney the minimum is 7.50 pesos.
For comfort and security I do advise you to get taxi accredited by the airport. The cost would be around Php 450 -600 ($9-12) depending on the destination.

There is several options you have.
But the one that I recommend the most is to take either a Nissan pre-paid taxi or one of the available pre-paid taxi services. It is the most convinient and probably the safest ones there. After you arrive and picked-up your luggage and passed through Immigration and as soon as you go through customs, go outside and you will see emediately outside on the first island, a booth. Go inside the office and they have a board with all your destinations and prices very well displayed. I pay P$550 which is like US$ 11 to Erminta which is very close to where the US Embassy is located. This last time, there was three of us with plenty of luggage and we asked for an air conditioned van. This was issued to us with no extra charge. The prices do not change there, whatever the time of day or night.
The next best option is to go upstairs to the drop off area where the departures are. There you can catch a Taxi that is dropping someone off. You can bargain a good price there. It is probably a lot cheeper than negotiating with the taxi at the arrival area. And maybe a lot safer.
I do not trust the taxi waiting for customers at the arrival area. They want too much and are hard to bargain with. And then, you never know when you are going to get a bad one that takes you to an alley where a few of his friends are waiting to dispose of your goods and money.
The next option is to get a taxi at the arrival area. Hope you have good negotiation skills and strong character. Do not pay more than P$300 but no less than P$250. You don't want to cheet them either.
Most Hotels offer a shuttle service. Some for free others for a fee. Most of the ones I have inquired about are highly priced. Inquire at the place where you are going to stay.
The one last option is to have someone pick you up. This is more trouble than is worth, I think. If you have no one to pick you up, I have a driver that I can give you his number. He has been a very reliable source that I use very often and recommend to all my friends that go to the Philippines. The friends that have used him say he is a very usefull and tolerant driver. He has been a very useful source. I have never had him picked me up at the airport, but he has dropped me off many times and at a price of P$600. I rather use the Nissan Taxi Ticket Service. To me it is quicker and more convinient way to get to where I am going. I pay a little more but there is no hassle.
Let me know if you want his number

i just got back from my two week trip to manila. i arrived may 24 wed at 9:00pm and i made the mistake of leaving the departure area of the air port without a taxi coupon as others here have mentioned. i met my girlfriend and her mother and aunt all live in manila and we caught a cab. imediatly they started arguing over the fare the driver wanted 25 U.S. Dollars i didn't know the difference. they were mad he told them cause i was westerner i cost more. we ended up paying 900 pesos. i later realized how much i got ripped off for. the highest fare i ever paid after that night even long distances in aircon taxis across town. was 150pesos. although i tipped some drivers 400+ because they were nice and aircon and didnt try and rip me off they charged normal philippino rates. my advice tell them strait forward you'll pay a set amount or a metered fare but watch the meter if it moves fast stop him and get out if you see other taxis.

Watch out for rip offs... The airport taxi will cost from 150P-530P depending on the area.
Last time I was there, a taxi driver tried to charge $30 US for a trip to Malate. I told him to stop as soon as he tried the rate game. If there is no meter running, get out and find another taxi.

Around 150-200 pesos will be fine. Just make sure that you get the metered taxi. :) There's no heavy traffic at that hour. Plus, there are hotels near the airport already.

get a meter cab and that should not cost you more than 300p to almost any hotel in manila. Any more than 300p and you are getting ripped off.
