'gator is an abreviation of alligator. they seem to be a similar concern. A croc is a crocodile, a marginally diverse species. The jaw is longer and extra narrow than that of an aligator, and the tooth factor out in a diverse way. besides, aligators are interior of sight to Florida. Crocodiles are got here across extra in Africa. (This final bit won't be very precise, yet with a bit of luck it enables.)

Finally, alligators are in the family ''Alligatoridae," while crocodiles are in the family ''Crocodylidae." The former have broader, more U-shaped snouts while the latter have pointier, more V-shaped snouts. When alligators close their mouths, you can only see their upper teeth. When crocs close their mouths you can see both rows of teeth. Alligators tend to stay in fresh water, while crocodiles have special adaptations to help them secrete excess salt, and they do fine in salty water.
Alligators also tend to be gray or black, while crocodiles tend to be more brownish.
well does that help?

this isnt scientific but it is true. Crocs have longer snouts whereas alligators tend to have a shovel shaped snout. Also, Crocs are generally longer than Alligators.

Alligators have a wide, blunt mouth / nose and crocodiles have a longer, more pointed one. Alligators are native to the americas, but not crocodiles. Florida has the alligators, but no crocs. Australia has crocodiles, as in the movie "Crocodile Dundee"

There are bunches of differences, but an easy way to tell them apart is from the shape of their mouth. From above, the alligator's jaws are shaped more like a "U", while a crocodile's is shaped more like an "A" or "V".
