My car was repainted before I bought it, however they didn't put a gloss coating on it? How much do they normally cost to have a mechanic put a gloss on it? I don't want to be over charged.

It needs a clear coat. Im sorry I know nothing about cars.

I think you're refering to the clear coat. Cost depends on the quality of the job. Starts around $500. Can go up to $2K. You get what you pay for.

Is the paint enamel or Laquir---It is possible that they did not paint it right....Check with a body shop and get pricing---
Another possible solution is that whoever painted it before did not put a clear coat on it. It may just need clear coat.

Well, that depends o the shop you take your car to.. but probably in the vicinity of $400.. if it is a GOOD job that is.
