Ok, so I love hyenas and eventually I'm going to devote my whole life to them through zoology, but lately I've been seeing and hearing people saying really bad stuff about them and most of it is untrue. I've done a lot of research and know what to beleive and what not to bealeive.

and don't put "watch the Lion King" because that's one of the main reasons I dissrespects disney. Also, I don't need long coppies of notes about the hyena. It's not like I don't know all that stuff.......and the whole laughing thing, OMG you people are so lame. just because of the way some1 laughs gives you no right to criticize them. shame on you!

Good for you! I've wanted to be a zoologist FOREVER, but unfortunately I'm just a wife/mother (Not that I am unhappy being a wife/mother, but you know what I mean). I am personally scared of hyenas, they are part dog, part cat (right?), they're oddly short, and they make weird noises. Hope this helps!

Truthfully I don't know either maybe its because they are very dangerous and kill lots of animals but its just for survival, I like hyenas I think they don't get enough credit, because hyenas are very smart animals and have gotten there bad reputation because of the Lion King, and although I am a fan of the movie; i am not of fan of how they portrayed the hyenas. They are literally one of the smartest and most intresting animals I have ever learned about.
PS: I also want to be a zoologist and specialize in all kinds of wild cats and wild animals

I also have seen a documentary that turned me off the hyena forever. I think the thing that got me was seeing the young hyena pups play 'mounting' each other, even the females, who simulated copulation with their phallic looking organs. If that's not weird I don't know what is.

While I was in Namibia last summer (doing scientific research), I was camping out and the hyenas and the lions got into a "roaring match." The hyenas would "roar" and then the lions would roar back. The hyenas sounded like ghosts. Their "roar" is EXTREMELY eerie. I think that is why a lot of people fear hyenas.

Gee I didn't know people hated hyenas! They are not pretty or majestic animals and the sounds they make are not attractive. Maybe that is why. Personally, I hate humans. They are my least favorite animal!

You're not weird. People think that because hyenas aren't cute or majestic-looking, then they must be cruel, vicious and evil.
In fact, most of the traits humans associate with hyenas are not found much in hyenas at all, but in lions. Good for you.

People seem to hate them because they're not "majestic looking". It really is not fair to hate any animal based on its looks.

Hyenas are always laughing in your face and never take anything seriously. It's like there is a time for fun and games and a time for actual animal stuff. STOP LAUGHING!
