Read the original story, or read the one by Robin Mckinley, "Beauty" it's a great re-telling of the classic. So are her other books too.

the love between the two connects them...besides, they're actually both human on the inside, it's just that the prince had a spell sent on him that turned him into a beast. haven't you seen the movies and/or plays!...that's like, the first thing they explain.
