There's obviously scope for experimentation here. I suggest that you acquire 2 black cats and test all the different possibilities of their crossing your path: one from left to right, one from the right and one from the left, one from right to left, two from the left and finally two from the right. After each test you would need to leave at least a day to elapse in order to decide whether you had good or bad luck. Maybe you could get a grant from a charitable foundation to run your research. But you must publish your results and let the world know the truth.

It depends on your opinion of alternative medicine. It was originally considered good luck because black cats are associated with witches so seeing the cat meant you had medical help near by. However when Christians started to take over from pagans witches, as representative of the old ways, were of course demonised. This is also the root of 13 as an unlucky number.

i hate to admit that i kinda default to the bad luck concept when a black cat crosses your path... however if that happens, i try and think of something that 'lifts' that bad luck, like the other days after having a black cat cross my path, a bunch of birds flew across as i was driving right after. and then another time it happened, i suddenly turned a corner and this white bunny was just sitting on a corner (like someone's escaped pet!) just thought i would share that!

For some communities, it is considered bad.
A driver specially is very superstitious about black cats crossing their paths. It is considered to bring bad luck. The drivers then prefer that someone else or any other animal first cross it and then they cross( well holds good if you have time:)

It's Good Luck, hence the saying Lucky Black Cat. A strange black cat came into our conservatory this evening and stood it's ground while out white cat miawed at it and ran out of the room. Brave lucky Black Cat!!
