They know who I am though. Maybe if I ask if they are hiring. He is a supervisor and so far no one under him got laid off yet. They say there is no work.

Ask him to file for unemployment benefits in your state (the state in which he was employed). They are required by law to determine whether or not he is eligible, and if he is not, they must explain why.
A denial of benefits can occur for reasons beyond his control, such as a plant shutdown, or other reasons.
But if he was fired for cause, they must tell you (him) in writing and offer the opportunity to appeal their decision.
Often, an employer will claim that a person was fired for cause, as this will save the employer money even if it is untrue.
In this case, you have the right to appeal the decision AT NO COST TO YOU before an independent hearing judge.
These judges often rule in favor of the laid off employee because they see so many cases of employers lying about the reasons for layoffs.
Also, their is a Federal law called the Warren Act which guarantees unemployment benefits to workers if a company has laid off a large percentage of its workforce. This law is commonly known as the "factory closing law."
I hope this has been helpful to you.

Well, your husband has to be the agressive one here. If he doesn't care to find out there's not a lot you can do. You could call his boss and say you are his wife and want an explanation. Other than that, not much. David has good ideas in his answers, but they are requirred of your husband.

Call his work from a payphone, just ask if he was really laid off, because if he was he should be able to get unemployment.
