I've had a friend for about a year. My problem is that she smells bad and I'm not sure if I should tell her... I've had a few people mention it to me. It never bothered me because I can't smell much (might be due to nasal polyps or due to a broken nose a few years ago)...Well today my sinuses must have cleared up because I just figured out what everyone in the office is referring to. Should I tell her or just let her be? I know I would want someone to tell me, especially if ppl in the office were talking about it...but then again, I do NOT want to hurt her feelings. (I can't tell if it's a food smell, like garlic, or an unshowered smell). Btw, this is NOT a joke. She's a close but not really close friend...What would you do?

Still haven't had the guts to talk with her. Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions. There were many good ones, so I'll put this to vote.

mention it to her, your her friend like you said...it may hurt, but its better coming from you than someone on the street making fun of her.

You could tell her verbally or just put a little note on her desk saying about the smell and just dont sign it. But it is very important to tell her cause someone else might come along and tell her in a hurtful way.

Maybe she has a sweating problem. My son did too and we got a cream from the doctor that helped him a lot and it wasn't too expensive. This is a real problem with people. I sure hope I'm not one of them LOL cuz no one's said anything. I'd rather hear it from a friend than someone else and she's liable to hear it from someone else first if you don't tell her.

buy her a mouth wash or breath fresher, deodorant or body mist.
if she ask why u bought it for her just tell her u went shopping, u got some for urself and decided to get some for her, if it gets worse then u have to find a very nice way of telling her.

which goes like this, tell her u urself do smell sometimes if u sweat alot and ask her what about u, if she says she doesnt know just tell her sometimes each and every one smells.

Take her for a walk aside from everyone else and talk about how your personal hygiene and what you have to do to keep it steady see how she responds. Try to play it by ear from there but if it's still a lost cause I would ask her about it....don't be too graphic about it though.

Tell her.. it's better to be told sooner .. or she not know about it and smell the rest of her life. if you were to smell bad would you like a friend to tell you or an anonymous person make fun of you for it. if she gets mad about it .. let her get mad.. you were trying to be a friend.. she'll sooner or later get over it
