In pregnant women, there is some evidence that untreated chlamydial infections can lead to premature delivery. Babies who are born to infected mothers can get chlamydial infections in their eyes and respiratory tracts. Chlamydia is a leading cause of early infant pneumonia and conjunctivitis (pink eye) in newborns.

a child born to a woman with a chlamydia infection of the cervix may acquire an acute eye infection called neonatal opthalmnia. which is a discharge of pus from the eyes of an infant that starts within 21 days of birth. it can be treated with antibiotics. chlamydia is also the major cause of pneumonia among infants in the US. Which can cause breathing difficulties. i suggest talking to your OB doc for treament. and even a c-section might be recommended for birth.

I don't think it can harm the baby untill you are giving birth. They can give you a single pill that should be able to clear up the STD and it safe for you and the baby. A few weeks later they will run another test to make sure it is cleared up completely. If you are still concerned talk to your Dr.

Well I don't know about the mortality rate, like the person said above. But I do know that it can be passed to the fetus during delivery. They have medications that you can take that are safe for both you and the baby to get rid of it.

While in the womb, I'm not sure. However once the baby passes through the birth canal it can cause blindness. Talk to you ob/gyn....please!

It must, because when you go to your OB for your first visit they run standard tests and that is one of them.
