As machines took over more and more of the work, labor shifted into tertiary service industries, improving the quality of life. based on this info, why may why non-industrialized nations have a tough road ahead?

Because the countries that industrialized first built up a service industry. Those countries that are trying to industrialize now will use the service industry from the industrialized nations and not develop their own, which means that those who are currently trained in roles that machines can replace have nowhere else to go.

Look at the United States and Mexico. As Mexico industrializes, the untrained workers won't have too many places to go. Many of the jobs that industrialization creates--designing, building, and maintaining industrial complexes--will be filled by US companies who are more experienced.
