I ask because it seems strange to highlight when the President is there. If I was in charge of his security I would do the opposite.

It's not any safer than the White House and no one ever claimed it was. It's well known where it is.

Edit: The location is public because it's not a safe house. It's not a place to whisk the president to if he's in danger. There are certainly places for that and they are NOT public.

Actually, the President does not go to Camp David for his safety, he goes there because it is a secure and secluded area where he can work and then relax without direct interference. When it was said earlier that it was 'public' I think he meant that the location is known of publicly, but access to the location is very heavily secured. You and I cannot walk up and party with the President.

There is supposed to be a secured location elsewhere in Maryland in the western mountains, I believe. This is supposed to be an underground hardened and air-tight facility. That might be what you were thinking of.

Then, of course, there is the 'undisclosed location' that apparently was disclosed by the National Enquirer or some other tabloid a few years ago.
