There are really only two logical reasons why I can think anyone would fear gay marriage. Either, they fear if gay marriage is legalized, that they will become gay and run off with someone of the same sex, or more likely they fear their spouse will do so.

Likely George W is afraid Laura Bush will run off with a lesbian. This is despite the fact that the Bush-Cheney 2004 website explicity states that Laura is not a lesbian.

http://2004.georgewbush.org/bios/laurabush.asp specificallly states "She is not a lesbian"
If George had read this site he would know he didn't have anything to fear.

I'm not sure why you are attempting to frame the debate in such a way as to call people who disagree with gay marriage "fearful."

Unfortunately, that's an all-too-common tactic with regard to the gay political agenda -- anyone who disagrees with them on anything is branded "fearful" or something similar. That's why they made up a condition, commonly known as homophobia, that doesn't even exist.

The larger social issue here is not gay marriage. The issue is whether or not activist judges can impose their will on the people even when the people have voted democratically on something.

In a democracy, judges should not have that power -- but apparently, too many of them think they do.

The people have answered with a resounding "no" in every state where legalized gay marriage has been put to a vote -- even in Oregon, one of the most liberal states in the USA.

This proposed amendment is about protecting the people's right to decide such moral questions, without activist judges brushing that right aside by legislating from the bench and pushing their own personal views on us.

This proposed amendment goes way beyond gay marriage. It's a matter of protecting the democratic process from ideology-driven men and women in black robes.

I do not fear it because it does not and cannot exist. Marriage was instituted by God between a man and a woman. As it stands gays have the same marriage rights as I do. A gay man can marry a woman and a lesbian can marry a man. That's all the rights they need. If they choose to live in a sinful relationship with someone of the same sex then they will have to answer to God for it. Just as I will have to answer to God for all of my sins.

They are self righteous and feel a need to save the world with their ignorant and bigoted point of view . They think that God is on their side and that they are the Christian voice and need to speak out for God and country . In reality fear is the main motivator , they view us as deviant , lustful , whore mongers , as well as many other things . Many people fear the unknown and instead of investigating and learning more about the thing that they fear they simply condom it and try to destroy it . The blacks went through the same struggle for rights after the civil war , due to ignorance and intolerance .

Because Communism is gone.

And the one thing the Fundamentalist evangelical Christian movement desperately needs is cartoon villains to use to focus hatred and fear into fundraising and political organizing efforts. You know, give our church money or godless homosexuals will be married in your hometown and they'll be enticing your nubile 20 year old son with their satanic ways...did I mention give our church money? Oh, and vote Republican. A vote for the GOP is a vote for traditional marriage (which is an easier sell than "a vote for the GOP is a vote for incompetence in disaster management, the dismantling of Constitutional governance, and massive deficit spending").

Hallelujah!

It's not a matter of fear, believe you me, I am not scared of what you do in your bedroom. Those Christian's who speak out about gay marriage generally base their bias on the fact that we believe that God made woman for man, and that's it. God also said that we should not judge less we be judged ourselves. So, as a Christian we are not supposed to engage in marriage with the same sex. Also as a Christian, we are not supposed to judge those who do. And you are not supposed to judge those who are against gay marriage.

I suggest you and whoever else is affected by those Christian who are against gay marriage try not to take it so personal and go to a state that allows that particular practice. God knows I am not encouraging you to marry the same sex, I am just encouraging you to go on with your life and not take it so personal when PEOPLE, not just Christians, voice their opinion about how you lead your life. Just as you will be judged for your actions, so will those misguided judgmental Christians.

Try not to be so general in your opinion of specific people and their religion.

As a Christian, I have no opinion of how you decide to live your life.

I don't think it's in fear, it is just that a woman was made for man, and man was made for a woman. Not for men to be with men and women to be with women. Men and women were put on this earth to produce, if men and men and women and women are together, they cannot produce offspring all they can do is adopt (which shouldn't be allowed either). I don't think same sex marriage should be allowed as well. But that is only my opinion.

Most conservative Christains beleive that legalizing gay marriage is an attack by leftist leaning judges on families and family values.

Low intelligence and ignorance? Or, maybe, they are just hateful, spiteful people.

More than likely it's a mixture of all of the above.

By the way, Julia in Miami, making your post longer doesn't make you smarter.
