I'm looking into divorcing my husband but don't know where to start. Are there any resources that can give you advise on the do's and dont's so that I don't get screwed in the process?

Before our marriage I bought a house under my name only, in California how can I avoid it to be community property? I'm planning on refinancing it prior to the divorce so I can get my finances in order and make it on my own. Is there a way that I can transfer title of my home to someone else prior to the divorce so that it isn't considered community property?

Another thing, all of "our" assets are under my name because he is here illegally. What rights does he have against the assets? Thanks for reading!!!

You need to see a lawyer because you have several issues going on here. First off, he isn't an illegal if he is married to an American citizen which I assume you are. There for get a lawyer to help you make the best moves possible in filing for a divorce.

I work for a title company in SoCal and the best thing for you to do is get an attorney to help you out. You switching title around and going through a divorce can be some complicated things let alone your husband was here illegally before marriage ( not even sure where to begin with that one )

It will be worth every penny !
