No. I feel it is more effective to teach them why being rude is wrong in the first place. This way they restrain themselves through understanding, rather than through fear of punishment.

If you even care about your children and want them to grow up confident and happy, you wouldn't spank. This is what spanking and hitting a child will do:
It leads to fear and avoidance. It gives children confusing messages and makes them think that using violence to solve problems is okay. It can introduce problems later on as they grow up for example bullying others, agressive behavior, criminal behaviors, stealing and domestic violence. Parents will spank out of their own anger and frustration because it makes them feel better. I believe it also makes the child become sneaky. It doesn't stop the unwanted behavior long term and children will do anything to avoid being hit. They aren't given a chance to learn from their mistakes, learn how to solve problems, use good judgement, control emotions, or feel confident and secure. Important factors needed as adults in life. You basically change who they are when you hit them. It is hard to justify the admonition "Don't hit!" while the parents are spanking the child for hitting. It is just a wimpy, uneducated, destructive way of parenting. Buy some discipline books. No expert recommends that spanking is effective. If you make spankings really hurt, then you are crossing the line leading to abuse.

parents tend to dump their responsibilities off on the schools.
children spend so much time in schools that they should be spanked if they get out of line. a lot of parents don't spank because they're afraid the kid will cry child abuse. where this present unpopularity of spanking came from, i haven't a clue. beat the kid's *** or it will beat yours.
they no longer know right from wrong because they don't get their asses busted when they do wrong.
spanking in school? yes, but not after the 5th grade. by then it won't do any good and if it does no good it can only do harm.

I feel you should only give light swats and send a note home telling what happened and hopefully with that the parents will punish their kids as well. Also have the parents sign a letter saying how many times you can spank them.

No, put them in a naughty spot, like the Super Nanny. I would sue the person, if someone ever touched my child like that. Where do they allow that?

No. Leave it to the parents. Only they love a child enough to do it.

Only parents/guardians should be able to discipline a child in that manner.

i guess not.. children would keep their pain emotionally till they mature... better talk and explain to them everything rather than hurting them
