Probably not in the form typically depicted: humanoid top, fish tail, human-sized, breathing under water. I believe that mermaids in some other form may exist. Maybe they are not humanoid/fish but some other fish-mix or maybe they are not of human size, but much smaller, or perhaps some discovered species, such as the manatee is our true mermaid.
