I want to do something this summer, with a canadian based organization and travel overseas but I dont know which organizations are best. I am Catholic, and my parents would prefer the orgranizations to be Catholic though i think personally that any interdenominational organization would be great. Might be traveling to Nairobi.

Kenya is amongst the safest places for Non governmental organisation work, as well as Missionary work. I'm your your catholic church will have some sort of position available for you in Kenya.

I was in Kenya a year and half ago as a voluteer missionary. It was the best times of my life.

Good Luck and God Bless.

You can start with your priest; you would be surprised how many opportunities they know of!

To begin missionary work, it is probably best to start by going with a mission group, to another country for a few weeks. In this way you will have the experience without risking your safety. If you are active in your church, they will be much more encouraging; especially if you have been helping with the children's church classes or volunteering somewhere.

Your priest may well recommend interdenominational organizations, and if you find that they are suitable your parents will likely understand. The official sponsor of many organizations is Baptist, but overseas you will find that most of the communities you deal with are Catholic.

Hi, Im 19 years old, and I have something to tell you.
I want to do some missionary work too.

First, dont let anyone to influence your own ideas (specially non religious people, they dont know what you feel inside), follow your heart, if you want to do some missionary work (maybe with the church) its because its in your spirit the desire to help others, so, the country doesnt really matters, what matters, is to help others in their needs. (Spiritual needs, food, water, clothes, homeless, etc.).
You will find a lot of people who will be against you or what you represent, but dont worry because it doesnt matters, you will be fine.
About how to get the chance, you should go to a help organization, a church or anywhere else, to tell them you want to colaborate, they will bring you an opportunity.

Don't let the ignorant fools discourage you. No one has ever erected a statue for a critic, only the ones who were critisized are ever remembered. I would check with your local church. Usually they sponsor mission work and would have valuable information for you if you wanted to help out. Hope that helps!

Contact your local diocese office of missions. They can put you in touch with all kinds of Catholic missionary organizations.

With love in Christ.

Here's any idea - don't be a missionary. Did it ever occur to you that maybe people don't want to be converted to your religion?
Especially when many missionaries use food and medicine to force people into religion. It's nonsense.
