I spilt HOT wax on my keyboard and am a loss as to how to get it clean. I have heard that you can put them in the dishwasher to clean it. Is that safe?

Ok Ok, I have to let everyone know that this actuallly happened to me about 5 months ago or so and so I thought I'd give it a try besides if it broke I would just have to go buy a new one anyways right? Well I washed it threw all the cycles and put it upside down on a towel to dry for several days. After that I plugged it in and guess what!! Ha Ha Ha I'm still using it!!!

Yeah. Bizarrely enough it works. Let it thoroughly dry before you use it. And do not heat dry the silly thing in the dishwasher.
Honestly, It does work.

I would. Plain water doesn't destroy electronics. But, you're going to need really hot water in order to melt the wax, and that will probably ruin the plastic strip that makes your keyboard work.
Once, when I had a keyboard that something was spilled in, I just popped all the keys off, took out the plastic thing with all the connections and washed it off. Then I put it all back together and it worked fine. You could probably do that, the wax should pop off the plastic if you bend it.

You should definitely NOT put your keyboard in the dishwasher. You should never get your keyboard wet because it is a piece of electronic hardware. You should never get anything electronic wet or it will get fried. Would you put your cell phone in the dishwasher? I would hope not. They make this sort of aerosol can that sprays out air to clean dust and stuff off of your keyboard but I'm not sure that will work in your situation. I would try to turn off my computer and scrape the wax off of the keyboard (so you don't accidentally press a whole lot of buttons with the computer on). If you can't get it off, you may need to invest in a new one. They aren't too costly.

No, that would just worsen the situation on hand. If you know how to remove the keys of your keyboard, use cotton swabs, dip in alcohol (just a dab) and wipe where the wax is located, be careful not to wipe near the key holders. Else, you can bring it to a computer shop and let them clean it for you.

Not true, and not a good idea. You will have a clean keyboard, but a dead one. I suggest you go ahead and buy a new one, you can find them just about anywhere. I saw them at Wal-Mart for like 10 or 15 bucks

Well, I've heard that as long as you make sure it is completely dry that you can wash it. Might I suggest going to Best Buy or Circuit City for a new one instead?!

No, water is not good for any electronic equipment. You will most likely just have to chip the wax off.

no absolutely not. you could get a can of compressed air and as you work on scrapping the wax off, blow the peices away...may take time but thats what it's going to take...
or.. buy a new keyboard.

Putting water on your keyboard can cause a short circuit, or electrocute you. Just buy a new one.
