I play pick up ball with all the guys at the gym. I'm always the last to get picked up for teams If I get picked up. I get no respect. I was at my best back in 1998. My mentality was I'm the best and I took it offensive if someone was better than me. It made me step my game up. However, the mental is still the same to this day, physically I'm in great shape too. It's just I can't merge the two together. Once I get that I figure I can be on the top of my game again, i don't think age has anything to do with it. There was this guy named James Carpenter in my hometown. I swear no matter what City he would play pick up ball with, he could dominate on both ends he could carry a team even if he wasn't on a good team and still win! He also knew how to make everyone else better. I'm just trying to get my respect back to some new guys because all the people back where I'm from know my game. I'm in a totally new area trying to get respect. I've been labeled as not good. I will get my respect!!!!

I dont know what is wrong with you. If you are physically and mentally fit to play the game, I dont see the reason why you're having such a big problem. Its all in your head. If you got game, you dont have to brag about it. Let your game do the talking. My Dad once said, you dont ask for respect, you earn it. By showing that you are a really great baller, respect will come. But not being a great offensive player, makes you a great player. You have to have all the necessary skills to play on a TEAM. Your problem was, you always get picked last? That's fine because they dont know you yet. So, show them that you belong by being a chamistry type of player. Look to pass before you shoot. Look to rebound before you run for a fastbreak and most of all, the most important thing in all of team sports, RUN RUN and RUN. Dont be lazy. If I'm wrong with my advice, I'll give you 50 points from me.

Yo my boy is from new york and he's a little white guy, and he gets picked last and then he just crosses kids up and scores on anybody and we either run the court or he is picked up right away. But nothing beats practice and a winners mentality. When I play anything my state of mind is I'm going to Dominate you and I do what it takes to do that. Have a swagger out there and spend some time alone in the gym working on your game.

You said you were good in 1998 but have lost the edge...I have played ball for a long time...leagues and pickup...and in playing for a long time the game can get a little boring. You need to constantly have little goals...like I'm not going to let the man I'm guarding score...and the best way to do this is to not let him get the ball...if he can't get the ball, he can't score. On offense run around alot...most people don't like to guard people who run around alot and this will leave you open alot...take avantage of being open alot...you said you were in good shape so basically out work (hustle) everyone else...trust me...I will always pick a hustle person with some skill over a lazy person with alot of skill...they make the game fun to play.

Since you are new to the area, I would not take offense to being picked last. I know, psychologically, it can be frustrating..but they probably just don't know your abilities. The better players like it when you feed them the ball...in the post or for an open shot. I know, its an ego thing...but if you do pass it to them..they are more likely to pass to you when you are open for a shot or layup. Be a good team player and players will be more likely to give it to you. Good luck.

If you're serious....PRACTICE.

Go to a court where nobody is around. And shoot. The way I do it....I take 100 free throws. Challenge yourself to improve your percentage. EVERYDAY. Write it down. Keep track. Then move back and shoot 100 midrange shots. Then step back and shoot the 3's. You gotta do it everyday. The shot will become mechanical to you. You'll find your rythem faster.

Know your strength & weaknesses. Don't put yourself in a position so that your oppenent can constistantly expolit your weakness. Know your opponents strength and weakness. Put them in a position where they're given their weakness.

Hustle. Don't be lazy. Challenge every shot that your man takes. Put a hand n his face.

Practice. You'll get better.
