From the first-initial of his middle name. It also has been eluded to as standing for "W" as in White-trash.

Because of his idiotic, nonsensical remarks! Actually I think it was because we were "dubious" of everything he said. He has been less than honest, to put it mildly Liar is more like it!

"But the true threats to stability and peace are these nations that are not very transparent, that hide behind the-that don't let people in to take a look and see what they're up to. They're very kind of authoritarian regimes. The true threat is whether or not one of these people decide, peak of anger, try to hold us hostage, ourselves; the Israelis, for example, to whom we'll defend, offer our defenses; the South Koreans." -George W. Bush, in a media roundtable discussion, March 13, 2001

"I do think we need for a troop to be able to house his family. That's an important part of building morale in the military." -George W. Bush, speaking at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, March 12, 2001

think this carefully... dubya... as in the letter W... only with a hick accent.

and why wouldn't we? i mean he talks with an accent and it's how he would pronounce the letter W. how would calling him dubya be offensive (even if it does sound dumb, but hey... the name fits the person, ya know)?

Yes, it is a heavy texas drawl/slur of his middle initial, W (double u), most likely originally to distinguish him from his father, George H. W. Bush.

All the talk about his lack intellect or his integrity is just drivel from small minds.

I have called him worse then that. Dubue is mild by comparison to the worst president that this country has ever seen.

Not suggesting we abridge free speech, are you? Over a nickname?

It's the phonetic spelling of his middle initial, only in a dumb, hillbilly way.
