China and India have large populations because of five main factors:
1) They are big. It might seem obvious, but we shouldn't overlook it. China and India have huge land surfaces. More land means you can have more people. You can appreciate the importance of that point when you realise that China and India aren't the most DENSELY populated nations on Earth. Taiwan, Monaco, Bangladesh and many other nations are cram far more people into every square mile. But those two nations are physically big so even a moderate population density translates into a massive population.
2) They are primarily tropical and subtropical. This often surprises many people, who don’t think of China as a tropical nation, but around 30% of its landmass lies in the tropics. Tropical regions are inherently more productive because they receive more sunlight and are warm enough for plants to grow all year round. That means that tropical nations can produce around 5 times more food than equivalent temperate regions and subtropical regions around 3 times as much. More food allows a nation to feed more people, and thus sustain larger populations.
3) They contain a lot of productive land. Both nations have an abundance of fertile land, an abundance of rainfall and an abundance of rivers for irrigation. Compare this to Australia, which is also a massive tropical nation yet has a tiny population. Most of Australia is desert that can’t support agriculture, and most of what isn’t desert is only suitable for grazing cattle and sheep. The tiny amount of land that has sufficient water for growing crops is infertile. In contrast most of India and China can sustain agriculture, and most of the agricultural land can support crops. They have high rainfall and plenty of rivers, and thanks to the Himalayas and Mongolian plateau there is plenty of erodable material to provide fertile river valleys. Lots of productive land means lots of food which allows more people to be supported.
4) They are ancient cultures that have never been destroyed. Both nations have been civilized for the last 8, 000 years at least. That means that the people have already largely perfected agriculture and their culture has attuned itself to that lifestyle, the eland has already been cleared and the infrastructure established to maintain the nation. Compare that to nations like Brazil or Mexico that, while they are also large and potentially productive tropical nations but where civilization recently for most of the country and where the indigenous culture was demolished. Those countries are starting from scratch and need to clear land, build roads and canals and even develop an appropriate culture for their environment. That limits the productivity of the land and thus the population. However Brazil is expected to surpass Chin in population size within the next 5 generations.
5) They have low standards of living. That means limited access to education, limited health care, limited career prospects. Under those circumstances people will always have more children because so many children die, and because there is no advantage to having just a few children. That means that the population growth is always near maximum. Compare that to a developed nations like the US where it is rare for a child to die and where a child has better prospects of getting a good education and a good job if they have fewer siblings. As standards of living rise so people have fewer children. At this stage the SOL for most of India and China are so low that people are still having as many children as possible.
Whenever you get a big, tropical underdeveloped nation with a lot of agricultural you are going to get huge populations just because the people can. Brazil is well on its way to becoming the next China or India because it has precisely the same factors applying to it. The only reason it isn’t already huge is because the population and culture were decimated just a few centuries ago so it is a young nation. But the population is climbing at an astounding rate.

In China, when a family gave birth a baby boy think that they have a secure future because men have more facilities and they have priority over women.
In this way, a couple had many children as they could, and some times that means many female children before a male boy arrived to the family.
Similar things happen in other poor countries like India

The chinese language-Indian border is the two impassable for long stretches via Himalaya mountains or they're properly defended by armed chinese language and Indian protection rigidity. China and India have an prolonged status conflict of words over the place their borders with one yet another lie. that's particularly so interior the Kashmir-Punjab region. China is a communist state, so human beings are much less probably to pass there via fact there may well be no incentive to do extra beneficial as quickly as you arrive. regardless of in case you do arrive there's a robust possibility you would be arrested by the government and dealt with poorly. they might even think of you have been a undercover agent for the Indian government. Western China isn't that prosperous the two. so which you in all possibility does no longer discover it any extra beneficial there than in India.
