Just *one* rational reason. That's all I'm looking for.
Oh and remember, quotes from an outdated book of bronze-age jewish mythology does NOT count as 'rational". Just so you know...

So, it seems that the answer is "NO", there are no rational reasons against same-sex marriage.
There are even people stupid enough to think that marriage is a religious institution. *rolls eyes* Let me let you pin-heads in on a little secret; marriage is a LEGAL institution, NOT a religious one. Don't believe me? Try getting married in a church or other religious place without the legal documentation. You can't. You can however, get married at a city or town hall without ANY mention of god or any other magic sky-pixie.
Why? Because marriage is a LEGAL institution.
And that makes this a CIVIL right.
Sorry all you back-woods hicks, you lose. Bush is playing you inbred morons like a cheap fiddle.
I feel nothing but pity for you.

The only non-religous reason I can think of is the possibility of psychological harm to the children raised in such marriages. How do kids coming from these relationships deal with other kids coming from heterosexual relationships? I have no information on this, this is just opinion.

I would not call the Torah, what you call "...an outdated book of bronze-age Jewish mythology" outdated in any respect. Jews today successfully apply the concepts written therein, and the interpretations of those concepts in the oral tradition, to modern life, as witnessed by a vigorous Orthodox Jewish population. For a Jew, G-d prohibited such unions as not being optimal from a spirtual viewpoint. There are actually a few Orthodox gay and lesbian synagogues, but they garner little support in the larger Orthodox community, because from a Jewish law point of view it is impossible to find a way to "legalize" them.

If any other animal species were plagued with homosexuality like ours it would fail to survive.

Gays and lesbians are not natural. The purpose of life is to procreate. If you refuse to believe the bible then atleast believe sience. A penis was made for a vagina because the species cannot reproduce in any other way. If you want to look at evolution, we cannot reproduce asexually, we evolved to produce sexually, where sperm and egg come together from two different sorces... The union of two same sex people does nothing for the human race. The death rate is already higher than the birth rate. You project that over the next few decades, and more and more people 'coming out of the closet" and a few hundred years down the road we have breeding couples as the minority.

I dont know about you but considering that future generations are all we have to support us in our old age i dont want to risk a void due to peepees in pooters.

Also, deciding that youre the only person who can define rational, by definition makes you irrational. In which case it makes this whole question and answer void.

When it all comes down to it you want to blame and push away anything that has to do with God and the bible. Thats your perogative, and your right as an individual. Just as much as Christians arent allowed to push their beliefs and standards youre not either, this is a goverment of majority. And right now the scocial majority still believes marriage is between a man and a woman. This is aparent by the fact that the men in office voted there by majority are more against it than for it.

So stop throwing your little fit and get ready to vote.

"Sacred union between man and woman" tends to be a very popular answer, however I think it's a load of crap.

There is no rational reason that a two females or two males cannot have the right to a wonderful life with the person that they choose. For someone, including our government, to deny the happiness of other's is wrong. Who gives them the right to make that decision! It's their life and I fully agree they should have the right. Who cares what the churches and their child molesting priests say?! To find true love and be happy is our right, no matter what gender they are.

I feel the same way about them raising children together. As long as they love the child, can provide for the child it's better than some parents out there.

The book does count, and I do not think procreation can be accomplished by same sex humans.
I supposed your definition of rational would be someone who thinks like you.
I do not condemn your right to choose, nor should I preach. Your beliefs are obvious. As such, so are mine.
Mythology would be things like the Greek gods turning into constellations.
I do not wish to force religious beliefs upon anyone as that could do more harm than good. But many other books are outdated, or better yet dated material. This alone does not make them any less valuable nor worthless.

Shakespeare-The life and works of Socrates-Dr. Seuss-Aristotle all have a place. Yes?

Although I do not believe this, some people think that homosexuality is kind of like a disease, that any children a couple might have (adopted, obviously) would become homosexual because of bad influence. Which is apparently the worst thing that can happen to someone.

This is not true, homosexuality in men is usually caused by a variation in the Xq28 gene and a mother with an overactive immune system. There is nothing wrong with it, homosexuality was accepted in the glorified ancient Greek culture.

Because the Bible, God's Holy Word, defines marriage as being between 1 man and 1 woman. This is not from some outdated book of mythology, but on someting that is real. You may not believe it, but one day, one way or the other, you will come to realize that. Hopefully before it's too late

well, i dont know if wat im going to say is "rational" but i think that most men have a fear of this getting so common because most of us were raised so we would only marry women, and for some reason that gay mariage mighyt become so common and actually theres some people that find it uncorfortable looking at two guys kissing... theres people like that! and so it seems that god made us so we would mate with people from other sex! thats why we cant sometimes imagine how we going to mate and keep reproducing anymore. if this becoming very common, then theres going to be a decrease at child born! and some other people think that if their kids see two guys kissing all the time they going to think that thats normal and become gay too!!! people get a lot of fears just coming out of nowhere and sometimes without no reason!!! those r just people that r closed minded and cant accept the realilty and they always think that stuff should be the same way they have always being!! thats wat i think, i think im kind of open minded and i actually dont care about this, but well all i said is some of the stuff people think, might be A LOT MORE!!!

That's funny! I was gonna say "watch out for all of the bible quotes"

I have no rational reasons here.

Actually by not having a rational reason.... My answer would be most rational! Do I get the 10 points?

I go with most of all the people here. There is no rational or valid reason for denying same-sex marriage. This thing is being introduced coz the prez wants the support of the conservative's support in the coming elections and to increase his opinion poll rating.
