I don't know that it impacted America's social structure, but it did give us Alex Haley's view on the effect of slavery and prejudice on his family and the lives of other slaves and their descendants. It may have made people more aware of the effect racism and segregation have had on our society.

Tim C. - No, i'm sorry. Christers run the bible belt, and that they love teen being pregnant. The unplanned underage being pregnant value right this is relatively, actual data of that. i'm no longer taken aback by means of something on T.V. anymore.

I think that it incouraged African-Americans, and others, to find out about the cultures they came from.
