It means that that the link to the picture is incorrect, and is trying to link to a file that doesn't exist. It's not your fault. There's a problem with the site you're trying to view.

if it has a red x then u'll will not b able 2 c it. if it has a white/gray x it will come up in a lil bit

it can mean, the person sending them didnt attach them correctly, or the client they used doesnt support direct file attachmement.
