it is not so much a question of a good system or a bad one, it is merely custom and tradition... like driving on the left-hand side in england. the problem with the u.s. is that they think that EVERYBODY thinks as they do, and those that don't should!

Because we like to be different and obstinate. Same reason we never switched to the metric system. :)

I find it confusing... just like using Inch and Fahrenheit. (in my country we use Centimeter and Celsius).
But I wouldn't say it's "bad", it's just "different" from what we are used to, and therefore, "confusing".
