There is no general method but sometimes there are little tricks you can use. Say for example
21x21=(20+1)21=20x21+21=420+21=441
You can break up 21 as 20+1 then use the distributive property. And the reason this is easier is because 20x21 is easy to multiply out and then to add 21 to it is just as easy.
Or take 24x24
24x24=(25-1)24=25x24-24=600-24=576
or 24X24=(20+2+2)24=20x24+48+48=480+96=576
Same trick. These are just some simple examples of breaking things up to multiply faster.

There really is no easy method. The only easy ones are 10 x 10 or 100 x 100 since you just put a 1 and add the zeros

cvokhai has already done it. you may remember this rule for multiplication of any two double-digit .
I -(multiply units digits)
X - (cross-multiply tens and units digits and add)
I - (multiply tens digits)
add carried-overs in each stage after putting down the right-most digit.
